Hi friend,

I appreciate you subscribing to one of my newsletters, and valuing the ways in which we can all change for the better. After a lot of reflection, I’ve decided to say who I voted for in the US Presidential election, and why.

If you don’t care about that, no worries, and no need to read further.

The reason I’m doing this is because the moral stakes are the highest they’ve been since the election in 1860 of Abraham Lincoln, and I believe you have the right to know where a mental health teacher or author stands on key moral issues.

The stakes in this election include a woman’s right to make choices about her own body, reducing global warming, preserving NATO, and protecting democracy.

I am saying what my choice is. I am not telling anyone what their own choice should be.

I have voted for Kamala Harris, both as a vote against Donald Trump—a racist narcissistic sociopath who brags about molesting women—and as a vote for a largehearted competent mainstream Democrat.

Either Harris or Trump will become President. We have to decide which person as a whole will be better. Not voting for Harris will help Trump win. Imagine that your vote will decide the election. Is your anger about X or Y issue truly worth putting Trump in the White House?

This election is upsetting for many people, me included. You might like to see resources on my website for navigating political turmoil.

If you haven’t yet registered to vote, you can do so here. For nonpartisan guides to candidates and issues, see Guides.Vote.

Personally, it helps me to take the long view. There have been many struggles between viciousness and love. Viciousness often prevails for a while. But long-term, love always wins.

This has been our past. And it will be our future.

Respect and warm wishes,

Rick
